Timings

Less than a week to go! We're very excited and looking forward to seeing you on the big day!

The ceremony starts at 15:00, so you should aim to get there at 14:40 (there's a ceremony going on before ours, so the Town Hall have asked that you don't go in until this time).

See you then!

Tube closures on the big day

Good news - most lines are open on the 4th! Click here for more information. Only annoying bit is that the Northern Line isn't stopping at Kings Cross on the day, so people will have to take the Victoria line from Highbury & Islington, walk, take the bus or get a taxi from the Town Hall to the reception.

The day after...

Just to let you know that for those of you who will still be in London on Sunday 5 July, we are planning a little get together at our place from lunchtime onwards. If you will still be around and fancy joining us for a hair of the dog and a bite to eat you would be very welcome. Just let us know if you are planning on coming so we can get an idea of numbers. Full details will be posted here in due course!

Please note that the picture above is for illustrative purposes only and does not necessarily reflect the food we will be serving ;)

Cheaper airline fares from Boston

Looks like American Airlines is winning the airfare war from Boston. Prices are around $75 cheaper than Virgin or BA. The trade-off is no seat-back video, you pay for your drinks, and the Flight Attendants, no doubt hampered from years of cutbacks, can be a little surly. So if the heavily made-up Texan woman yells at you for asking for more peanuts, don't say I didn't warn you...

Kids!

We've had a couple questions about children attending. Kids are very welcome at the ceremony and you're more than welcome to take them along to the reception. However, as we're holding the reception in a pub, it is normal practice in the UK that no children are allowed after 7pm. We're looking into setting up babysitting arrangements, so if you're interested let us know!

Copthorne Tara - Good rates

Just had a look and the Copthorne Tara in Kensington has pretty good rates, and is probably a good place to stay if you are looking to stay for a week. I know the hotel well from my ACIS days. It is just behind Kensington High Street which is great for shopping and eating. There's even a Tesco Metro nearby which will save you money.

Virgin Atlantic is having a sale...

Alright Americans - no excuses.  Virgin Atlantic is having a sale that takes in July 4th.  Just follow this link and get booking.  British Airways and the US carriers usually match the deals too.

Accommodation Info

Ah London. Home of the small hotel room. Not to worry, we've selected a couple good options for those looking for a place to rest their head. Kings Cross has a large assortment of accommodation - some good, some grotty - but we think these are pretty good and hold up in the size and comfort categories. London can be expensive for hotels so we've given a pretty good spectrum of choice:

Travelodge Kings Cross - closest hotel to the venue. Travelodge does what it says on the tin - basic and characterless rooms, but clean and central. This one is in a nice building and has only been open a couple years.

Travelodge Kings Cross Royal Scot
- a little further up the road, and often cheaper.

Holiday Inn Bloomsbury - Nice rooms, and you can often get good deals on their website.

Generator Hostel - For the more adventurous type. That said, I use them a lot for work and even stayed here. Just completed a renovation. Dirt cheap and get a group of people together and share a multi-bed room. If you are interested in this option let me (Jim) know as I can get special rates here.

Premier Inn London King's Cross St Pancras - Like Travelodge, but with a moon in their logo.

Europa Hotel - Decent B&B down the road from our flat. Good prices and no doubt there will be events happening around here. Americans be warned: it's VERY British (read: smallish rooms and questionable decor) but the price is good and you'll see lovely Tufnell Park.

Ceremony info

We will hold our ceremony in the Council Chamber of Islington Town Hall at 3pm on July 4th. Islington Town Hall is located on Upper Street near Upper Street Underground Station.

We have a venue!

We will he holding our reception at Smithy's Wine Bar and Restaurant in London's swinging King's Cross area.
